Introducing The Education Team Blog

Caitlin DiCresce, Attorney I

The Legal Aid Society of Columbus

Welcome! The Legal Aid Society of Columbus (LASC) and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS) are happy to announce that attorneys from our joint Education Team now have our own blog. We started this blog to discuss students’ legal rights, updates in education law, changes due to COVID-19, and so much more.

School issues probably aren’t something you would normally think of getting a lawyer involved in, but both LASC and SEOLS can provide direct assistance to students with legal issues involving their education. We can help with issues involving enrollment, school discipline, fees, accessing services for students with disabilities, any many other concerns. If you child is struggling with a school-related issue, please feel free to give us a call.

Education law is a unique area and we know that it can be difficult for parents to navigate these issues on their own. Your child may have rights that you don’t even know about. For example, did you know that homeless students have special protections when it comes to school enrollment? Or that a child facing an expulsion has the right to be represented by an attorney during disciplinary hearings? Have you heard about the services that a school can provide to students with disabilities? We will be discussing all these subject and more in our blog.

We hope that this blog can give you some useful knowledge and tools to help your children succeed in school. We will be updating the blog each month with a new story on your child’s educational rights. Our first post will be shared on March 29 and we’ll be talking about bullying. Stay tuned!
