January 29, 2016 will be the last day Southeastern Ohio Legal Services will call East Second Street home. Since the mid-1980s, it has had its offices on Second Street, starting first at 15 E. Second, and slowly expanding to include both 13 and 11. Starting February 1, 2016, the offices will be at 73 E. Water Street in front of Kitchen Collections.
During its years on Second Street, Southeastern Ohio Legal Services helped thousands of low income and elderly in Ross County and surrounding counties resolve their family, housing, income, and consumer problems. Jim Daniels, Southeastern Ohio Legal Services’ director, stated, “I began as managing attorney at SEOLS in 1987 at 11 East Second Street. At that time we served Ross, Jackson, and Pike and senior citizens in Brown and Highland counties. Now the office serves Ross, Jackson, Pike, Pickaway, Fayette, Fairfield, and Hocking counties. The good work done by this office has helped a lot of low income and senior citizens, not just in the counties directly served, but across the state and the country. But, I am looking forward to the office’s clients being served at our new location and to see what the owners of the building are going to do with our old space.”
Joshua Goodwin, the office’s managing attorney, added, “It’s going to be a big change for all of us. We’ve had a lot of those recently with various retirements, but I’m confident that we will continue to make an impact on the lives of our clients over on Water Street.”
